The start of this film is so bizarrely cheery it just oozes dark undertones.

This really is quite a special film. Hard to believe Lancaster was 52 when this was shot. Glad I watched it.

Just phenomenal. Truly an original piece of art that in it's own unique way represents the transition between the old and New Hollywood. Everybody should see this for that reason alone, it's like the missing link. I have never seen more expressive close-ups, Lancaster's blue eyes are as hypnotic as can be.
