This movie is actually pretty good. Officially it's a 'film noir drama' and there certainly is a dramatic plot and also some romance and cute little Lars-Erik and of course there's (drum roll) an awesome Conrad Veidt. I mean who could blame Joan Crawford's characterfor falling madly in love with him. Not me. I'm only upset that he so often played villains.
A big minus for the b/w cinematography - I think it would be wonderful to see Joan's perfect face, the scenery (snowy mountains, waterfalls) and Conrad's blue eyes in colour.

Moral: Once you're beautiful on the outside you can be beautiful on the inside.

Ingrid Bergman did it better.
