Ignore the comments below. This is a very good film.

Here some points to confirm my opinion: At the beginning we see an insect climbing with difficulty a clump of earth and at the very end a woman is also having difficulty to climb a hill. This parallelism leads to one aspect: how people are slaves of their desires and cannot liberate themselves (like insects) . But also society behaves almost mechanically conflicts come and go but people seem not to learn the lessons. There are always small hopes of progress but this are not heard or pay due attention. In the first case is sexual desire the culprit in the second case money or power. Although the film is very provocative and sometimes overemphasizes its points it remains to the very end neutral about the outcome of the struggle between the freedom of the spirit (human society) and it opponents.

I watched casually and found the details of the plot hard to follow. For a movie centered on characters I thought it lacked character development and presented some very disturbing behavior in very matter of fact way. I agree that this film seems overrated and probably gets higher marks for some taboo content (IMHO).
