Are we supposed to like the main character of this film? At the beginning he has a wife and 3 kids, by the end he kisses another lady then leaves the planet without saying anything to his family who will surely expect to return and try to reconcile. How were we talking to the aliens with lights and music? Why did they take that little kid only to return him a few days later when they kept the others for 30 or more years? Why was there one really crappy looking tall alien and the rest really short? I didn't experience as much wonderment watching this film as I expected. I much prefer the swashbuckling space adventure flick that came out the same year.

This is a movie to talk about after seeing it.

Love Spielberg's vision.

Although the graphics are impressive for the time period it was made, this movie failed to impress me. The characters were mostly unlikable, it was too chaotic and noisy, and it was irritably slow-paced.
Also, most annoying kids. EVER.

This is not my cup of tea.
