I didn't really find there to be much of a story for the length of the film.

Total Oscar bait. Excellent performances, a few pseudo-poetic lines of dialogue, themes of race/nationalism/what have you, soundtrack consisting entirely of piano, "based on a true story," British accents, and of course, Nazis. Not a bad movie, but it follows the formula far too closely to do anything interesting. It's like a really well made hamburger.
