If you're expecting something along the lines of "La Dolce Vita" or "La Strada" or even "8 1/2" you'll be thoroughly disappointed.
This is Fellini asking himself "what would happen if Alejandro Jodorowsky made "Caligula"". And it's better for it.
Satyricon is an Acid trip of the best kind. How is this not a gay cult movie?

Completely agree with dantheman89's comment, except for the fact that both Caligula and Jodorowski's masterpieces came AFTER Fellini made Satyricon, hahaha.
Extremely visually beautiful film, if a little disjointed at parts. Definitely not what you would expect from Fellini if you only know his early films, but man, is it good...

I didn't hate it and wasn't bored, but at no point did I ever know what was going on.
