I mean-- it's hard to argue with the fact that this is "amateurish" and pretty badly preserved. The audio is mixed shoddily and the editing is completely schizophrenic. However everything is so charming and fresh that it wins you over. "Amateurish" isn't a dirty word: one of its many good qualities is a willingness to experiment that "professional" films sometimes lack. I specially liked the total disregard Okraina has for good taste-- mixing comedy and real tragedy with no consideration for tone or emotional whiplash. You've got a guy winking at the camera after a massacre. You've got a sequence that's essentially Paths of Glory played for laughs. The final line is a joke delivered by a guy who's been shot to death. I also don't mind propaganda if it's as eccentric and messy as this film. Plus I rather like it's anti-war-The Internationale-Workers of the World Unite! type of message.
