I found this a stodgy & un-involving film, with too much narration and underwhelming characters. It's well shot (Jack Cardiff, so it would be), but I struggle to see why it's so highly rated on Cahiers du cinema or They Shoot Pictures lists.

Bogart is great but this unfortunately seems to drag a bit.

have to agree with brokenface - it's definitely classic hollywood entertainment but not at it's best (and often quite boring & down in clichés)
