Almost everything about the plot is so unbelievable that even the most generous noir-minded viewer can't really buy it. For a second I thought at least some of it was all in the mind of our mentally-ill protagonist (a very good Jason Patric). Then again-- like a lot of dreamy crime films-- it's fairly easy to just vibe with it. In the end you will realize that the things that stretch credibility are there for thematic -if not outright discursive- ideas that make sense: people aren't as clever as they seem, distrust isn't always being smart and love at first fuck shouldn't be dismissed as self-delusion. Pretty salient points. Kinda dumb movie. Hell of a neo-noir.
