Well that was a mighty depressing film. And I loved it. I even think it might be one of my favourites ever. Films are supposed to make you feel, and this one surely made me feel A LOT. I was basically going through the whole film with tears in my eyes because I knew what was coming, and I completely bawled at the end. If you're looking for a film that rips your heart out and stomps on it, then this is the right film for you.

So sad!

Horrific, emotionally punishing film that reveals the ravaging and systematic, deliberate violation of conflict in a way few are willing to acknowledge. As powerful an anti-war message as Platoon, yet in a sense even more brutal as it features two children fighting for their lives in quiet desperation, with the miserable end almost a foregone conclusion. Necessary watching for those who occupy a Patton-like bravado on the issue of war's necessity. It isn't pleasant and is actually designed to break the audience in two, but in this case, poison is the cure. Still can't believe this premiered in a double bill with My Neighbour Totoro - a marketing gaffe of seismic and laughable proportions, to be sure!
