This film grew on me and upon a second viewing, it became my new favourite. I'm a teenager and like Ebert says, it's doubtful that a character like Schmidt can hold a teenager's interest for just over 2 hours but it's recommended that teens view this because they can learn that if their belief of a good life is a good job and a good paycheck, they could end up like Schmidt. Really learnt a lot from this film.

Even when this is on the verge of sentimality, Jack Nicholson gives such a commanding lead performance here that the film always works.

One of the saddest movie I've ever seen. People who say it's comedy are dead wrong. It's a realistic, brutally true example of a failed life, and it's so tragic.
