Wow - this was one of the most involving, moving experiences I've had watching a movie in a long time. Its compassionate depiction of a man with some severe mood disorder (perhaps manic depression?) is both heartbreaking and harrowing. An instant favorite.

What were the clowns at Miramax thinking when they were piecing their gem of a trailer for this movie together?

This reminded me of the story of Donald Crowhurst. Rather than facing shame and humiliation instead choosing to dig himself into a hole of lies so deep it was impossible to get out of.
