This is absolutely brilliant. I really love Billy Wilder, he was a man ahead of his time. Stuff like this and Ace in the Hole could have been made yesterday, still relevant, still biting and still engaging.

Anatomy of an alcohol addict. Well directed and played.

Another classic from Billy Wilder - it justly won a slew of Oscars but seems comparatively unknown now next to his most famous films - perhaps the subject matter puts people off, but it must be one of the great films about alcoholism alongside "Days of Wine and Roses" and "Leaving Las Vegas"; like those films it hard to watch at times as Don spirals out of control. The 'La Traviata' sequence is fantastically well done, and Wilder's bitter humour is ever present, perhaps at its bitterest here. Great.
