They just don't make movies like that anymore. Tibbs and the Chief are two of the most fascinating characters I've seen in a while.

Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger are amazing and work great of each other. But I think Rod Steiger plays a more complicated character, he wants to solve this case but is held back by what people think the sheriff should act like towards African-Americans. The film is very suspenseful and I was so afraid at the end when Poitier was surrounded by the people of the smalltown, it was great that he got himself out of that situation just by talking and by using his intelligence.
