This is a bit of an odd one. Tonally it's all over the place, moving between a gritty, political, emotional war movie and a lighthearted and humorous romp in the desert repeatedly with a frenetic, hyper-kinetic energy. It's disorientating and off-putting at times, and I can't help but feel it might have been a better movie if it picked a tone and stuck with it, but there's no denying that the resulting combination actually works in a weird, wonderful way.

This movie is just confused. Either that or it had 3 different directors who never spoke to each other throughout filming. One moment it's trying to be a wartime comedy, the next a depressing Apocalypse Now-esque film, the next a heroic "goodies vs. badies" shoot'em out.

Try to take the movie for what each part is and it's quite good. There's definitely a good film hidden in there.

Love this picture. Feels so much more natural and less contrived than David O. Russell's newer movies. It's consistently funny as well as consistently insightful. Beautifully shot and edited. Honestly, probably the least pretentious of the director's movies that I have seen. Definitely watch this rather than American Hustle or Silver Linings Playbook.
