As children in the loving Ekdahl family, Fanny and Alexander enjoy a happy life with their parents, who run a theater company. After their father dies unexpectedly, however, the siblings end up in a joyless home when their mother, Emilie, marries a stern bishop. The bleak situation gradually grows worse as the bishop becomes more controlling, but dedicated relatives make a valiant attempt to aid Emilie, Fanny and Alexander.

"Fanny and Alexander" more like just "Alexander"

she is more like a background character or a prop. This is Alex and the adult Ekdahls and Mr. Jacobi's film.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. The art direction, cinematography, costuming, and the actors' performances were fantastic. I hope I'm not the only one, but I sensed a darkly comic undertone in some scenes and dialogue that I liked very much. Something else I must mention is the uncanny resemblance I noticed that the actress, Ewa Frölling, has to the actress, Emilia Clarke. There were moments where I was reminded of GOT.

I know I'll be firmly in the minority, but it left me a bit underwhelmed to be honest - I didn't really care for the characters and thought the story was incredibly thin given the running time. Give me Bergman's 1950s and '60s output any day.
