Is anyone else disgusted with the tradition of turning your youngest daughter into a slave?

Like Water for Chocolate is a wonderful Mexican film, a romance that spans decades in which the title character's feelings and desires are magically communicated through the food she prepares. Based on the best-selling book by Laura Esquivel (which you'll still need if you want the recipes), the movie does a good job of rendering the magical realism of the book into film terms, at once funny, touching and always surprising.

A beautifully sad love story. If only life would leave us alone, we could live it.
