I heard a lot about the ending from many reviewers, including the ones here. I made sure to not read any spoilers, so I had no idea on what was meant by "disturbing". As I watched, my mind wandered to what "disturbing" meant. Was it gory? Incredibly dark? Traumatising? I expected the worst, and upon seeing the ending...I was surprised. It was creepy, yes, but I found it more sad and almost bittersweet than disturbing.
Despite dying an awful death, he not only found exactly what happened to her, but he even envisioned meeting her again. He chased after her for three years, and finally found her again. All he wanted to do was to find out what happened to her, and he achieved that goal. I wish that Raymond would've at least been punished, but they can't all have a happy resolution.
All-in-all,I liked it. I do agree with that one commenter about the music, but it was thankfully rare and didn't detract from the film too much.

Kubrick said this was the scariest film he had ever scene.

A tale of obsession, manipulation, and fate. The last few minutes of the film was really creepy and disturbing.
